William Ethington, son of Aaron Lewis Ethington, was born in Henry County Kentucky in 1864.  He married Liddia Margaret Ethington (daughter of John Jack Ethington) and lived for a while in New Home, Henry County.

In about 1900 William and Liddia Margaret moved their family with team and wagon to Oklahoma for health reasons, hoping to find a drier climate.  They settled in Watonga, Blain County, Oklahoma.  The family remains centered in that area to this day.

Karen Ann Llewellyn is the great-granddaughter of William and Liddia Margaret, and has been instrumental in gathering their family history.

A large number of photographs have come to her through her grandmother, Elma Meier  Ethington.  Those without identification are presented here.

William Ethington of Watonga OK is the grandson of James Ethington (1795 - 1865) of Lockport Kentucky.  James was a successful builder and businessman in Henry County, and his family was well provided for.

These two photos (above, and at left) are of two young well dressed couples that could well be among James’ descendants.  On the back of both, someone in the Oklahoma family has written “Unknown, Relatives from Kentucky”.

I remember Uncle Aaron well. He was the kindest of men. He wore a full beard and looked precisely like the poet Longfellow.

--James William Ethington, son of Robert Owen Ethington who was a brother to Aaron Lewis.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

1807 - 1882

Unknown person.  Possiblly Aaron Lewis Ethington (1829 - 1892), said to have looked like Longfellow.

This man and woman appear to be a couple.  Same background, same general period of dress.

Identities unknown.

The five men above are not identified.  On the back of the photograph is written:

Tin Type Photo.  Ethington boys?  Cousins?  Relatives?  Original in possession of Judy Ethington Soule.

The two girls at right seem to be sisters.  Note the rough shoes, and the unusual dresses.  Aaron Lewis Ethington did have two daughters who were close to each other in age--Mary born in 1864 and Martha born in 1867.  If these two girls are about 17, and if they were Mary and Martha, that would place the year of this photo at about 1884.  The quality of the photograph seems to fit that time period.

This could be a working thesis for further study.

These two persons are not identified.  Writing on the photos says only that they are unknown Kentucky relatives.
